Ancient and Early Medieval Coins from Cornwall and Scilly by Penhallurick, R.D. RNS SP45

This volume details almost 17,000 Iron Age, Roman and early Medieval coins from 289 individual find spots in the county of Cornwall, including 52 hoards (1 Greek, 1 Iron Age, 46 Roman and 3 Anglo-Saxon) and 21 excavated assemblages.

The gazetteers of coins from Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly include descriptions of the circumstances of each find and summaries of the coins recovered, whilst four indexes listing entries by parish, find type and period mean that finds can be located quickly and easily.

A brief analysis of the mint at Launceston from 1000-1100 describes one of the few occasions that an official mint was operational in Cornwall. Ancient and Early Medieval Coins from Cornwall & Scilly is one of only 3 regional numismatic corpora from Britain (joining NW England and Wales). It will be an important source of information for those interested in the archaeology and history of south-west Britain from later Prehistory to the Medieval period.
