Published in 1970, this book contains 450 photographs printed in seven-colour lithography covering the principal Orders of the European countries. The concise text describes each of the Orders, and there are copious line illustrations in black and white of the supplementary Orders of each country which are not in the colour section; as well as of the wearing of Medals by men and women in both military and civilian dress.

Never before has this subject been presented so colourfully at a popular level and yet with the authority of a reliable reference book. The British section includes of course the Bath, the Garter, the Thistle, and the other main Orders, and the text tells of the origin and the history of the Orders of Chivalry.

This book, too, includes a number of the military Decorations won so widely in the last war, as well as many of the prominent civilian Decorations such as the George Medal, the Polar Medal and others. This is a subject that touches upon history, international affairs, and the ceremony of great State occasions.

The book was originally published in Denmark and the publisher acknowledges the help and advice of Major-General Sir Cyril Colquhoun, K.C.V.O, C.B., O.B.E., lately Secretary of the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood in Britain, in the preparation of the text for the British section in this edition.
