The first of two volumes concentrating on the Anglo-Saxon and British coins in the Norwegian collections contains comprehensive coverage of the Anglo-Saxon coins up until 1016 contained in the collections of Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen and Stavanger as well as several smaller collections and is illustrated with 76 black and white plates.

The volume also contains an introductory essay discussing the history of the four major collections in some detail, as studies of the collections are mostly published in Norwegian, and are less accessible.
